Double Holy Crap on a Cracker!
Really, September 28th, YIKES!
Have meant to sit down and update this several times and reality keeps intervening. Sucky ol reality anyway.
Well mom was scheduled to have cataract surgery on her other (right) eye a couple weeks ago and we got all prepared for that only to have her get "sick" and end up cancelling that appointment. Arrggghhhhh! Fortunately the prep work, (doctor visit, labs, EKG, etc.) was good for 30 days so we didn't have to go through the whole fire drill again!!!
A week or so and all memories of being "sick" were gone and we were able to get to the surgery center and she had the surgery. Went absolutely fine, doctor was very pleased. We went in for a follow up next day and she was seeing at basically 20/50 from that eye (closer to 20/200 prior to surgery) and that will improve over the next week or so to close to 20/20 or 20/25.
Personally think it's a pretty cool thing to have that good of vision without glasses!! FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE! Just sayin.
I wanted to give her every opportunity to be able to navigate at home and good vision is Step ONE.
She's fallen three times since returning from the assisted living home. All three have been more of slips off the bed or chair and have been either bad positioning/decision making, or this last week, a combination of bad positioning/decision making and fatigue. She half sat on the smallest chair while trying to close the window and slipped off. She used the walker to go to the followup appointment and was really tired when we got back home.
We'll use the wheelchair for excursions in the near term going forward.
Still needs to work on nutrition and related strengthening and exercising.
All for now, but will try harder to update more often.
