Saw mom this afternoon, she has a cough that started yesterday evening, nurse called and doctor has prescribed medication for it 3 times a day. Chest Xray negative. Other than having a case of advanced cabin fever and being cranky at the whole situation she seemed pretty good. Was very aware that she was having a coughing spell and was able to articulate that very well. Physical therapy has stopped as of Monday due to Medicare absurd rules (she still needs it but it's been 100 days since the fall, but she still needs it, but it's been 100 days! Can't you foolish mortals count? 100 is 100 is 100 blah blah)
Working with her primary doctor to extend that.

Special place in hell for medicare/insurance actuaries, 7th ring of hell and no waiting!

Try to update tomorrow.

Tonight Scott went over to the towers and worked with mom on wheelchair and excercise. I spent the day talking to Health Net/Medicare and talking to and visiting assisted living homes to fill in with moms rehab when Medicare stops paying for the Towers.

Thanks Scott!!

Went to see mom tonight and she had finished dinner, eaten pretty well but was tired and just a little crabby. Rosario took her to the bathroom, she brushed her teeth and they put her to bed.

I got to play in her wheelchair and despite never ever having been in a wheelchair i was able to show her some tips and tricks, 360's and backing up and left and right turns.  Tried to get her to understand that the wheelchair could be her best friend if she stops fighting it.  We'll see.

Any visitors and readers that can help encourage her to practice in the chair are welcome to try.

I'll try to get back to this tomorrow.

I've been fighting a cold this week so just made it over to see mom today, though spoke to her on the phone several times.

I know tht she had visitors, Alexa, Herb, Scott, Quinn, Jan, Mariah. I can see a nice box of candy from Mariah I'm sure.

She still wants out of there but really needs to be able to walk/ambulate safely before she is safe to go home.

It's a work in progress that can benefit from encouragement from visitors, but truly needs effort on her part to complete the circle.

Mom was doing pretty well today, no physical therapy on the weekends. She is doing well with meals, usually eating 100% of breakfast and dinner, 80 % of dinner and apparently 120% of any cookies in sight!

She had a short lived arthritis flare on her right wrist but a short course of ibuprofen seems to have resolved it.

Swelling in her left leg seems under control now, a course of HCTZ is helping.

Di stopped by and gave mom some wheelchair driving lessons (she is a better teacher than I am, clearly)

All for now.

Can't believe it's been this long that I have been away from the posting.

Mom has been eating well, usually 100% of breakfast and lunch and between 70 and 90% of dinners.

She has gained close to 15 lbs in the past 30 days. She had a minor setback about 12 days ago with a bowel obstruction that got her over to St. Mary's hospital for three to four days but came back well and cleared up and actually gained a pound while there!

Staff at St. Mary's were great!

I'll try to get back to more regular posting in the next few days.
