Mom has recovered completely from her cataract surgery and reports seeing very well. Had dinner with her last night and she was doing well. Paul called and we put him on speaker so we could talk to him. She had a visit from Mariah and enjoyed that. Spent a lot of the day sitting out enjoying the sun.

She has been getting visits from the cat next door, a cute, inquisitive rascal that just waltzes in and makes itself at home!

Her transfers from wheelchair to chair are completely independent now, she doesn't need any help with that at all. The work with the physical therapist Enrico is really paying off as well as the other work with the inhouse therapist Joshua.

We are targeting moving her back to the apartment the weekend of the 26/27th of July. Fingers crossed.

Moms cataract surgery was successful today and she is back in the room resting easy.

A pic of mom with her cool shades!
Mom is back from surgery and resting easy. Going to have a bite to eat then go down for a nap.
So mom is having her surgery on the cataract right now, and is expected to be back at the Coventry resting within an hour or so. She'll have a follow up appointment with the doctor tomorrow morning.

Mom is doing pretty well. Many reports of walking with the walker from dining room to her apartment . I've seen her transfer from the wheelchair to the chair in living room unassisted!
She's Speed Racer with the wheelchair now, nearly running over some of the slower residents.

Cataract surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The good news is that mom is making good progress finally and seems to have gotten motivated to participate more fully in her recovery. She has been making good progress with both the wheelchair and the walker and we can actually talk about getting her home before the end of July!

She's made a big improvement and shows no signs of the disorientation that was present at the SNF a few months back.

Of course we'll have to have help come to the house and help her up in the morning and with bathing and stuff but it's a step in the right direction.

She's also going to have cataract surgery on her left eye and is actually on board with that! June 25th. I thought it made sense to have it done while she was still in the assisted living home and had their staff available for care.

I had lunch with her yesterday and dinner the night before. Here are some pics from those outings.

I met with the physical therapist Enrico on Thursday and observed him with mom. He had her do several transfers from wheelchair to chair and then took her for a couple of extended walker walks and she was doing pretty good.

Had dinner with mom yesterday and despite a bit of complaining she ate ALL of her chicken cacciatore,  most of her salad, and most of her mushroom soup. I had stopped by Boudin's and picked her up a couple of cookies and she liked the macaroon a lot. Gonna have to remember that place! Not just good chowder in a bred bowl. IT"S A bakery! Great breads, place smells amazing. 10th and Geary.

I heard from the nurse today after they took mom in for an eye exam. She'll likely need cataract surgery on her left eye (the known cataract has gotten larger) and she seems fine with it. Possibly end of this month. Can't really expect her to have a fighting chance navigating if her vision is compromised. I had noticed that she was having a problem seeing things, reading, seeing people at a distance so I had made the appointment a few weeks ago.

Okay, May is officially over so I'll try to start updating more often.

Scott and Quinn and I had lunch with mom at the Coventry yesterday. She was sitting out in the sunlight enjoying the day when I got there (her favorite pastime)

There was a rummage sale on the sidewalk outside the building with proceeds going to Alzheimers foundation. Mom donated a couple of Barbie dolls and we picked up a couple of books that she hadn't read for her written by one of her favorite authors .
