BE Very Careful how you answer that cause..... You could go from the Christmas card list.....to the OTHER list! Just sayin.
Okay take another look......
No resemblance at all!

So Mom had a visit from Geppetto
(AKA Scott) this last weekend and he put his not insubstantial woodworking skills to use cutting her kitchen table down to a more wheelchair friendly height so she can be safer while eating meals and looking at the view.
Pretty sure Quinn did nothing of any substance.
OKAY OKAY! AFTER RECEIVING NEAR DEATH THREATS FROM SOME THIN SKINNED NAMELESS PERSON IN MARIN!!!! (Hint: Rhymes with Pin)
I am feeling PRESSURE to revise the comment about Quinn doing "nothing of any substance"
Just a little light mischief from Cousin It! BWA HA HA.
And after I had ALREADY given her Props for chipping in! (See below) Some people just don't have any sense of humor! AND need to call in the reinforcements (the aforementioned Geppetto) to bawl me out about it. Sheeeesh!
We all met over there on Wednesday and moved her toaster oven and cabinet to the other side of the room to give her more maneuvering space in the kitchen and make meal management easier. This time Quinn actually did chip in finally and help organize the cabinets to have food easier to reach from the wheelchair.
Her physical therapist wants her to stay in the chair unless someone's there to lessen the chance of falls.
So that's the plan.
Plans to take the Fambulance/Waaaaambulance with the Bickerson Sisters up to Tiburon to the Belben McMansion for Thanksgiving
Also found this photo from their youth

Well mom is home and behaving mostly.
Apparently all it takes is a fall and subsequent trip to the hospital/spa for a couple of days to sink through the granite that lies between someones ears. You be the judge, I see a resemblance!
She has been eating better the past few days, again, the Spa visit may have really really been the wake up call she needed. Actually ate breakfast lunch and dinner and drank her Ensure twice a days for the past 2-3 days. The fear/promise of internment in a place like Laguna Honda may have finally become real.
This would probably be a little worse than Laguna Honda....Maybe...
She is getting at home physical therapy now from insurance in addition to the out of pocket therapist that we've had working with her.
We are lucky that Healthnet/CareCentrix sent Enrico, the physical therapist that worked with her at the Coventry. He knows her history and limitations which will help. Occupational therapy will visit at the end of the week to make additional recommendations on making the kitchen safer and more accessible.
If Only.....She would just eat healthier. Instead of and More like below...............
If she follows the rules and eats properly and excercises she can stop the downward spiral and continue to live comfortably at home.

So Mom was released yesterday and I brought her home to her apartment. Marge and Herb arrived shortly thereafter and we all sat around and talked. Huh?? HUh?? What did you say, Huh?
The doctors and the neuro team gave her a passing grade, despite her not studying for the tests. They ruled out Hydro Encephalitis and chalked the fluid they saw as simply caused by age.
This could be germaine... Just sub Mom for Cats and you have it.
We are pretty much in agreement that the root cause of her falls is two or three fold. Fatigue due to bad nutrition since she came back from Coventry, Muscle loss due to simply not enough calories day to day, week to week, and poor choices relating to moving around and not considering the consequences and being more careful.
She's tired from the 2 days in the hospital and fall, but who wouldn't be?
I warmed up a piece of quiche from Marina Super and she scarfed it all down.
She did do better with Breakfast Lunch and Dinner today. 50/50 whether that becomes the norm. Would make a HUGE difference. But.
Feel free to substitute Mule for Horse.
All for now.

Tonights update is relatively good news. They may release to go home tomorrow but a few departments need to weigh in. Notably Neurology first, then PT/OT. They could also recommend a short stay in Rehab for physical therapy work.
I spoke to the neurologist tonight and they were going to have a meeting and then decide whether continue further tests to get to the root cause of the falling.
SF General is known for a top shelf Neurologics department, part of the reason the Paramedics took her there. YAY. Possibly we'll get a good holistic overview of the situation and maybe inject some clarity. The Neuro doc's performed some tests tonight when I was there and she did well on all of them. Spacial tracking, tuning fork neuro transmitter nerve tests.
Mom of course is not thrilled with being there another day and they have not broached the subject of an extended stay at a SNF for physical therapy. Jump off that bridge when we come to it.

Thursday update: Dateline San Francisco General Hospital.
Well they are keeping mom another day while they wait for a consult with neurology to see if they can get to the bottom of moms falling problems. (REALLY, I couldn't make this stuff up)
She's also going to be seen by OT and PT ....... GOOD!
She's on Floor 5D Room 1, Bed 1 and I'll post a phone number as soon as I get it.
I spoke to her for three nanoseconds and then phone went dead. If you've ever talked to mom on the phone lately you gotta figure it's 50/50 between phone challenged and craptastic phones.
Check this video out to see what I think of virtually all lowest bidder hospital phones. (And I have had a LOT of experience in this area.

So it only has taken till just now to get a call from the doctor to discuss mom. (started at 9:07 a.m. this morning) 8 or so calls, three hangups, fun stuff.

JUST when you thought it was safe to relax!!!!
Mom had a slip or fall tonight right after Scott and Quinn brought her dinner. Not sure what the exact story is but some of her favorite Paramedics came and decided she was just woozy enough to warrant a trip to ......Wait for it...... SF General Hospital.
Yep! A new adventure. Something about Mom maxing out her Frequent Flyer points at Saint Francis! WHO KNEW??
Despite our general distrust/apprehension about SF General here in the city, the ER is apparently top drawer. I spoke to staff just after they got her and then the doctor called me about 90 minutes later!
No breaks, no bleeds and all seemed well. She wanted to go home tonight but the doctor and I pulled rank.
She WILL spend the night for observation and be released tomorrow on good behavior. Sit, STAY!!

I'm going to post a quick rant/call to arms here on the incredible misinformation campaign against the two insurance related propositions 45 & 46 that apparently lost today.
Follow The Money. The INSURANCE COMPANIES you know, Blue Shield, Kaiser, Humana, etc outspent the opposition 6 to 1 on 45 alone, they spent 56 MILLION DOLLARS.
I'm just sure beyond belief that they did that for all of US. I mean we always are able to count on the INSURANCE COMPANIES to have your back, and beat back the evil TRIAL LAWYERS (Scary Music plays here)
But wait, if as stated the Evil Trial Lawyers wrote and paid for the Proposition, why did they only spend a sixth of what the INSURANCE COMPANIES DID.?? Hmmmmmm.
Check these articles out and weep.

Well we had an adventure as we went up to John and Marias in Sausalito for a family gathering in honor of Merede, who passed away a couple of weeks ago at the tender/ripe age of 95!!! RIP Merede.
We had her hair done last week in preparation for the gathering...
It took some assistance but Mom made it down and back up the stairs (27) to the house. (So not handicap friendly)
JR helped with Mom on the way down and Maria and I got her back up the stairs. (THANKS JR and Maria) Craig and John helped Marge down the stairs and she was fine. Aunt Barbara was there and looking sprightly at 93!!
Craig, Gary, Christine were there with Christines daughters Megan and Chloe, Megan and her Husband Jeff were there with their two sons Griffin and Mason.
Of course Mom & Marge had a nice time seeing the kids as well as the rest of the family (first time in at least three years, since Aunt Barbaras 90th birthday)
